Michele Jolliffe September 18, 2023 Dr. Clements was an exceptionally intelligent, talented, unassuming, and joyful individual. His lectures were remarkably lucid, and he had a knack for presenting complex subjects in a down-to-earth manner. One lecture, in particular, left an indelible mark on most of us, even to this day – his lecture on flowering.
Dr. Clements held the esteemed position of patron for the Agriculture and Veterinary Graduates Association, which was established in Melbourne to create a network for graduates who were relocating. During the association’s formation, Dr. Clements drove from Warnambool to Melbourne, to provide invaluable insights and guidance.
He played a pivotal role in organising a workshop aimed at motivating relocated professionals to pursue their careers, and this effort transformed the lives of many participants.
One of the most memorable experiences was our trip with Dr. Clements to Merimbula for a gathering. It provided Thambaramala and me with the opportunity to spend quality time with Dr. Clements and Jenny.
Our cherished memories of Dr. Clements will remain etched in our hearts forever, and the wisdom we gained from him will be passed down to future generations.
Sincerely,
Thambaramala Gamage and Sepala Annakkage

A legacy of wisdom and inspiration
There are rare individuals who leave an indelible mark on both their field of study and the hearts and minds of those they encounter. Dr. Clements was one such luminary, a beacon of wisdom and inspiration whose legacy continues to illuminate the path of knowledge.
Dr. Clements was not merely an academic; he was a mentor, a guide, and a friend to innumerable students and colleagues. His passion for his subject matter was infectious, and his enthusiasm served as a powerful catalyst for learning. However, it wasn’t just his academic prowess that endeared him to those who knew him.
Dr. Clements possessed a unique combination of intellect and humility. His contributions to his field were nothing short of remarkable. His publications, lectures, and presentations were a testament to his dedication to the pursuit of truth and the advancement of human understanding.
Beyond the classroom and the laboratory, Dr. Clements was a pillar of his academic community. He served as a mentor to countless students, guiding them along their academic journeys and instilling in them a love of learning that would last a lifetime. He was a source of inspiration to his colleagues.
As we mourn the loss of Dr. Clements, we also celebrate the extraordinary life he lived and the profound impact he had on the world. His legacy lives on in the minds of the innumerable individuals he inspired and in the body of knowledge he helped shape.
Dr. Clements exemplified this ethos throughout his life, and his legacy will continue to guide us, reminding us of the immense potential for positive change that resides within each of us. Though he may have left this world, his wisdom and inspiration will continue to shine brightly, illuminating the path forward for generations to come.

Bill Poynton September 18, 2023 Rex anna my Brother-in-law
Rex anna my brother-in-law came into my life when I was almost 9 yrs old. Round about the time when a young boy would look up for a father figure. From the very first moment I met him, he took a very special place in my heart, and from then on, all my life.
I admired his type of music, so took on to music. His style, so I put on his clothes. He was intelligent with an exceptional ability to speak intellectually, effectively, and efficiently with such clarity, I was marvelled by it and so I grew with the desire to possess the same, along with his beautiful personality and character. These I’m still working on them, It’s hard to keep up with such a man like him. He did everything thing with great passion and dedication. I couldn’t have asked for a better role model, a father figure, a big brother, a teacher who taught by example, with humility amidst an array of achievements. It’s hard not to want to be like him.
Metaphorically and literally he brought music to my life.
He was gentle and decent in his humour,
No to anger and never to slumber,
Never to boast in himself, but always celebrated by everyone else.
I’ll always be grateful to the lord to have given my widowed mother such a son-in-law who was more than a son to her, who took the place of her husband by being a constant source of strength and confidence right till the end to her last breath by her bedside. Caring and serving, he is greatly to be honoured and appreciated. We will miss him always. Everywhere I turn I see him in everything, for he has left such admirable and memorable deposits in our lives. True to his last words, “ I’m not going anywhere “. He will always be with us, bring out only the best in us.
He was loved and admired by me oh so very much, my only regret, I wish I had said them in his living years.

From: Arunthathy (Former student of Dr Clements).
Sorry in a rush I couldn’t add this comment to my earlier posting. But I felt that it’s nice to mention this.
I was prevailed to work under Dr Clements for an year and a half in the Crop Science section, in Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya. Until now i am grateful for the knowledge I gain from him.
Also he was in the interview panel for my scholarship application (for M Phil, Phd). In that interview I was successful but unfortunately couldn’t continue with that to learn under him.
For all what he was & did, he’ll be always remembered fondly by us & he will be resting peacefully in the arms of the Lord. My thoughts & prayers are with you all in this difficult times of yours. With love & regards. Arunthathy.

Jeyasingh David September 17, 2023 In 1976, our late brother-in-law Isaac Gnanayutham suggested that Rex would be an ideal partner for Jenny. We then prayed about it and arranged for both of them to meet and both liked each other. Thereafter the first wedding in our house was the wedding of Rex and Jenny. They were doing very well and were living in Nawalapitiya. Rex was a very good husband to Jenny and a loving father to their two children. Rex did his duties to both his and Jenny’s families with much love and dedication. He was very humble and pleasant although he was a very qualified person. God’s blessings will be on humble people and Rex was an example. God knows the best and He has taken him in His time. God will comfort Jenny and the children and will continue to be their Father and Guide. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jenny and the children.

I met Rex in 1968. A brilliant student in the history of the faculty, as my teacher. We are very privileged to have him as our lecturer. He was a very good teacher and a very gentle, humble and friendly person always with an innocent smile.
When he returned to the Faculty, after successfully completing his Post Graduate Studies, he became my colleague and a good friend. He used to entertain us with his musical talent . We had a great time together.
After three decades, we got reconnected again in Melbourne Victoria. Then he became a very good family friend. I have never seen him getting upset and he was liked by everyone. He was a jolly good fellow. He had a very pleasant personality and we all will miss him dearly. However his fond memories will remain with us forever.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the rest of the family. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

Those jolly days along with my friends & cousins at his residence in Peradeniya Campus were really happy & joyful. He & dear Jenita were wonderful hosts with all our riotous days spent there.
Later in life, we had to settle down in countries far apart & which prevented us from meeting in person but thanks to modern-day communication facilities we were in touch with each other.
So we were sad to hear about the setback in his health & the bitter struggle he had to suffer during his last days on earth.
But now our God Almighty has called dear Rex to rest from all earthly strifes & for a peaceful everlasting life. So Goodbye dear Rex & rest in peace, with assurance that he will meet all loved ones in the world yonder.
May God be the Consoler and comforter to dear Jenita, Jeremy & Romina & all loved ones left behind. Felix Gnanaraj.
Felix Gnanaraj September 12, 2023 My sincere condolences to Dr Clements family.
I was fortunate to be his student at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniys (80-84 Batch), and there after to serve under him as a temporary staff member of the faculty. His academic brilliance was well known, but what was most noteworthy was his simplicity in the classroom and in general. It was a privilege and pleasure to have known him.
May his soul rest in peace.

Daya and Padmini Howpage September 11, 2023 Dr. Rex Clements was the best teacher(lecturer) we had in the Faculty of Agriculture in the University of Peradeniya during our undergraduate carrier from 1975 to 1979. There was lot of clarity and the lectures were very precise and informative. What he taught nearly five decades ago is still lingering in my mind. This is because he managed to deliver the most difficult subjects in a simple and a clear manner that all of us could understand without any difficulty.
He was not only a good teacher but also an exceptional human being with very good qualities. He was very simple and a humble person loved by almost all the students.
His demise is a loss to the field of Agriculture.
Let me convey my sincere condolences to his family members at this grieving moment
May his soul Rest In Peace
